Monthly Round Up

Welcome to our first monthly round up. In this edition, we cover some extremely useful new functionality on SharePoint, placing even more power in your users’ hands and slowly removing the need for costly design engagements. We also cover Microsoft Teams, as it wouldn’t be a Microsoft update without doing so, and the ability to share audio for Mac users. Finally, we look at one of our favourite features within Model-Driven apps, and how it provides some extra benefit for those larger Dataverse databases.

SharePoint: Site Templates

A feature designed to make the visual aspect of SharePoint easier, and semi put us out of a job, is the new Site Templates being rolled out by Microsoft. Previously, in the classic SharePoint, Site Designs were a useful feature to provide some quick and easy wins for themes. Site Templates have been brought in to align, and continue to make easier, the principle of placing the creation power in the hands of it's users.

SharePoint Site Templates

The templates can be applied to both new and existing sites and will offer your users (Owner and above) the ease of creation by accessing through the Settings cog > Apply a site template. There are a handful of pre-created templates for both Communication and Team sites, offering plenty of creative inspiration!

Microsoft Teams: Chat Bubbles

As we continue to progress deeper and deeper into the world of video meetings, chat has become an important part, allowing our participants to interact without needing to cut the speakers flow. Whether it’s questions, ideas or praise, chat can be a powerful feature and at current, it can be quite difficult to manually flick between the chat window (which you need to click) and the other meeting controls available.

With Chat Bubbles, you will have the ability to follow the conversation whilst remaining focused – giving us the notification prompt should we wish to see them!

Microsoft Teams Chat Bubbles

These can be turned off, should you deem them distracting, but in general we can’t wait to see these come and aid our training sessions in the future!

Microsoft Teams: Share Mac System Audio

One of our favourites, based on the fact we run Apple equipment when we travel (traitors, we know!) is the ability to now, and FINALLY, share our system audio on the Mac.

What seems like a fairly small update but provides a huge amount of benefit to those who have moved to the dark side!

Power Platform: Advanced Lookups within Model-Driven Apps

With Model-Driven apps targeting data-driven processes, the amount of potential data we’ll see crossing through these Dataverse apps can be extremely large. With so much data, the need to be able to extend our searching when we’re looking for specific table rows is extremely important - so voila... Advanced Lookups!

Model-Driven Apps Advanced Lookup

With a normal Lookup, we become restricted to the 2-3 columns that show on the lookup view. This may suit some situations, but for situations where we need to expand past this and see all of the columns regarding each row, Advanced Lookup becomes crucial.

Model-Driven Apps Advanced Lookup: Search, add and open records

The other key aspect to Advanced Lookups is that it allows you to browse through the records, or add a new one, without needing to navigate away with unsaved changes from the originating record.
